Updating Releases After Distribution

Find out which metadata changes DSPs accept on live releases and which ones require a full takedown and re-delivery

Metadata updates for live releases

Request metadata updates for releases that are already live across DSPs through DIMBER. Before you submit a request, check whether the change can be pushed to stores as a live update or whether it requires a full takedown and re-delivery.

Metadata Updates DIMBER Can Push

DIMBER can push some metadata changes to live releases without taking the release down first. These updates depend on each DSP's rules, so one platform may apply a change while another may reject the same request.

Common live-update changes include track titles, album titles, artist name spelling corrections, genre or tag updates, copyright text, and artwork replacements on supported DSPs. These changes are not instantaneous because each DSP processes updates on its own schedule.

DSP-by-DSP Update Support

The most common DSPs support live metadata changes, but their processing times and limits vary.

  • Spotify — Accepts metadata updates, including track titles, artist name corrections, and artwork. Processing typically takes 2–5 business days.
  • Apple Music — Accepts most metadata updates and artwork changes. Processing typically takes 1–3 business days.
  • Amazon Music — Accepts metadata updates. Processing typically takes 2–5 business days.
  • Deezer — Accepts metadata and artwork updates. Processing typically takes 3–7 business days.
  • TIDAL — Accepts metadata updates. Processing typically takes 3–7 business days.
  • YouTube Music — Supports limited metadata updates. Some changes require takedown and re-delivery instead of a live update.

Timelines are approximate. DSPs do not guarantee processing windows for metadata updates.

Changes That Require Takedown + Re-delivery

Some release changes cannot be pushed to DSPs after distribution. When a change affects the release structure, audio identity, or core identifiers, you must take the release down and submit it again.

Adding or removing tracks is never possible after distribution. If the tracklist needs to change, take the release down and create a new delivery.

Changes that require a full takedown and fresh submission include:

  • Changing audio files, including different masters or alternate mixes
  • Changing ISRCs or UPCs
  • Changing the primary artist to a different artist entirely
  • Splitting one release into multiple releases
  • Merging multiple releases into one release

For takedown timelines and process details, see Requesting Takedowns.

How to Request a Metadata Update

Use the release page in your DIMBER dashboard to submit the change request. After DIMBER reviews it, supported DSPs receive the update and process it on their own timelines.

Open the Release

Go to your DIMBER dashboard and open the release that needs to be updated.

Request the Update

Click Request Update, then specify exactly which fields need to change. Include the corrected text or replacement artwork so the review can move forward without delays.

DIMBER Reviews

DIMBER reviews the request and pushes approved changes to the DSPs that support the update. If a requested change cannot be applied to a live release, DIMBER will direct you to use takedown and re-delivery instead.

Monitor Progress

Watch the release status over the following days as each DSP processes the update. A change may appear on one platform before it appears on another.
